Birth Story Listening
March 25 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
HEALING FROM BIRTH
Birth is a life-altering event. Birth trauma is a common occurrence for parents and birth workers alike. Having unwished-for events, unplanned outcomes, or a birth experience that is very different than expected can leave an emotional wound that lasts far beyond the experience itself. Even births that might not be defined as traumatic often have little moments that bring up feelings of discomfort or angst, an unexpected tightening in the gut when recalled.
Birth stories change over time, as the storyteller is met with disapproval, overzealous agreement, or dismissals like “healthy baby, healthy mama, that’s all that matters.” Well meaning listeners may unwittingly encourage the storyteller to retreat into a lonely place of uncertainty and self-doubt.
Birth Story Listening® is a whole new way to approach the storyteller, helping them to reframe their birth experience in a way that lets them see beyond the moments of uncertainty or trauma to the possibility of a new understanding that will bring clarity to their parenting and their daily life.
Birth Story Listening will be offered as group sessions with a $60 fee or privately for $75. It is important that children be left with another parent or caregiver so that the storyteller can take this time to fully focus on the story.
