Katiana Castor, RN
Birth Center Nurse
Katiana was born and raised in a small town along the Hudson River right outside of NYC. She’s a first generation Haitian American Her love for reproductive health sprouted in high school when her pregnant biology teacher peaked her interest about pregnancy and everything having to do with the biological process. She went on to the University of Connecticut for undergraduate knowing that ultimately, she wanted to be a midwife that geared more towards holistic work (birth center/home birth).
She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Health and Reproduction, an individualized major that she was able to put together herself, with her future career in mind. She wrote a thesis as her capstone project that delved into the exponentially high maternal mortality rates of women of color in the US and discovered that the one of the leading causes for such high rates was the discrimination of women of color in the healthcare system. From then on, Katiana sought out to be the change she wanted to see. Katiana is very passionate about dedicating her life’s work to fighting and lowering those rates by helping to eradicate the implicit bias that exists in the healthcare system.
Upon learning that Georgia had some of the highest maternal mortality rates in women of color, she knew this is where she needed to go to begin her nursing career. Before moving to Atlanta in 2022, she lived in Boston for 3 years where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from MCPHS University. While in Boston, Katiana worked as pharmacy technician in various hospital settings, one of her favorites being Boston Children’s Hospital!
Katiana started her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse for about a year before transitioning into the birth center nurse role at ABC in March of 2023. She is very passionate about holistic birth work and helping birthing people realize their power! She is so ecstatic to be apart of a wonderful team of people who put the birthing mamas first and can’t wait to learn and grow as a nurse from all of these amazing people!
With her free time, Katiana loves to sing; growing up she sang in gospel choirs, a cappella groups and did numerous musicals. She also loves to travel and plans on taking lots of out of country trips in the coming years. At home, she has two fur babies, Harlem and Harry, foster cats that she adopted.
