Megan Gatewood, BSN, RN
Postpartum Nurse
Raised around horses in Nevada, Megan had the privilege of witnessing birth at a young age. There were many sleepless nights spent waiting for a mare to give birth. Megan remembers each of these births as being magical. After high school, Megan moved to Atlanta to go to Georgia Tech where she got a degree in Architecture. It wasn’t until she was pregnant with her first son that the fascination with birth returned. From the moment she found out she was pregnant, she wanted to find out everything there was to know about labor and birth. Within a couple of years, Megan had enrolled in nursing school at Georgia State to continue learning.
During her OB clinical rotation, Megan saw as many births as possible, at times rushing between rooms to see more. Over the next couple of years Megan gave birth to two more boys and decided to get certified as a labor and birth doula. As a doula, Megan was able see a midwifery model of care firsthand. Megan believes that when women have good support and are provided evidence-based information during labor and birth, they can gain confidence in their decisions which ultimately leads to confidence as they become parents. Megan has supported over a hundred women through the birth of their babies in all sorts of settings including the Atlanta Birth Center.
The Atlanta Birth Center exudes the support and care that Megan has always encouraged her clients to find in their providers. She was thrilled to begin working at the Atlanta Birth Center as a postpartum nurse. Megan lives in Grant Park with her husband, three boys and two male dogs. She enjoys cycling, traveling, gardening and watching her boys play soccer.
