Birth Center & Postpartum Nurse

Retta is an Atlanta native who completed her BA in Spanish at Wake Forest University and then went on to earn her BSN at Emory University. After graduating from nursing school she worked in Emergency Departments as an RN for 8 years in Atlanta, Charlotte and Kansas City.

While she has loved babies for as long as she can remember and became intrigued by midwifery after reading The Midwife's Apprentice as a tween, it was when she became pregnant with her first baby that she really dove deep into all things pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Her first two births were attended by a hospital-based midwife but she always had the feeling that something was missing from the experience. While pregnant with her third baby, she and her family moved back to Atlanta and she started care with ABC (which she had been following from afar on social media since before the doors officially opened). Retta had her third baby in the Water Room in December 2018, and then finally decided to make the move from ER nursing to birth work.

In February 2020 she started working as a Mother-Baby nurse at Emory Midtown and in August 2020 she started working as a Birth Assistant and Home Visit RN at ABC. Through this work and because of her own postpartum experiences, Retta has found that she is most interested in assisting new families in and through the postpartum period.

She lives in East Atlanta with her husband, 3 babies, and a cat named Penelope.
